It began at 8:20 a.m. on April 5, when police were called to 1575 Fairway in Jenkintown section for reports of shots fired, the department wrote in a release hours later.

The victim, a delivery driver for Pepsi, told officers that a driver in a white van pulled in front of him, stopped abruptly, then exited the vehicle. The suspect approached the truck "in an aggressive manner" before taking out a handgun, police wrote.

In the "struggle" that followed, the truck driver was hit in the head with the pistol, causing it to fire, authorities believe. That round grazed the victim's hip before the suspect hopped back in his van and drove off, according to the release.

Officers located the white van about an hour and a half later on Rodman Avenue, police said. The driver, 21-year-old Scott Thomas of Philadelphia, was arrested without incident, they added.

Scott was charged with aggravated assault and related offenses and remains locked up at Abington police headquarters pending his arraignment, the department said.

Meanwhile, the unnamed truck driver was treated for minor injuries at Abington Jefferson Hospital.
